Background

The sixth track off Beyonce's seminal record Lemonade, Daddy Lessons takes place at the point in the after she pleads for husband Shawn Carter to return at the end of 6 inch. The story of the album to this point is Beyonce, after realizing her husband's infidelity goes onto a anger-and mournful look at their relationship.

The Song Itself

Daddy Lessons represents the turning point in the album. Knowles turns to looking at the long family history of men within her ancestry, starting with her father. A common theme throughout the album is the seeming bond between fathers and husbands. Her father, the man that raised her also struggled with infidelity and uses him as a comparison with her own husband.

The Visuals

The entire record is put through a visual album, with this song being the 'Accountability' section of the album. This section represents her holding her own father and ancestors accountable for the infidelity within her bloodline.
