Sonic anatomy: I thought about killing you

Background

In his first big public appearance since his meltdown during his Saint Pablo tour in 2016, Ye appeared on TMZ and left with being back to infamy. During the interview speaking on how with slaves being around for 400 years that to him sounds like a choice. Him and then TMZ employee Van Lathan get into an argument and understanding the meaning of that quote. Prior to the incident, Ye was in his ranch in Wyoming producing multiple albums for people on his G.O.O.D. Music label. Albums like Kids See Ghosts, Daytona, and his follow up to The Life of Pablo, Ye came from this time.

The song itself

The song begins and for most of it, with a spoken word by Ye, speaking on his suicidal ideation he's dealt with,, and the other dark detailed thoughts. This exploration also adds in his feelings on love and the duality of love with hate. The song feels more like a dark therapy session where Ye just unloads all the thoughts he's explored through his mind.

Production

Most of the song is centered around an ethereal yet haunting beat with a choir like background filling the background. The song then moves into a more trap like sound at the end of the track. The end sampling Fr3sh by Kareem Lofty to create a more aggressive sound compared to the more haunting sound of the first beat.
